Kalyna

The Kalyna plant is a iconic symbol of Ukraine. This iconic plant has many interpretations. It can represent life, blood, and beauty as well as generational bonds. The Kalyna also stands for motherhood - the bush is the mother, and the flowers and berries are the children.

Oak branches 

The oak tree is known to be strong, this connects to it being the embodiment of masculine energy. Oak motifs on vyshyvanka mean manhood, bravery, and strength. Additionally the oak tree personifies Perun, the pagan Slavic god of thunders and storms.  

Poppies

Poppies provide protection against the evil eye. Ukrainians used to bless poppy seeds in church and then sprinkle their homes and livestock with them, believing poppies possessed magical powers that protected against all evil.

Roses

Roses are a symbol of Love, beauty, and femininity. Their adorjornment is very common on women's vyshyvanky.

Berries

Similar to the Kalyna bush, berry plants also signify of motherhood. They represent love, wealth, beauty and maternity
